I've been away for a bit and will update the past 27 days over the next day or two. In the meantime, this sign just made me stop and blink a few times.

This is probably old news, but Aix closed on the upper west side

Almost nothing in Central park is natural, including this rock's placement

Looks like it will be nice in warm weather

I'm really curious what prompted this

I had to pick up something at Best Buy and was amused while waiting in line to see they sell books too. That's quite a collection they have.

They're going all out replacing the turf in Bryant Park.

Much like Bryant Park, this building is getting a face lift.

I've been back to the Burger Shoppe a few times now. Their burger is quite good and the line demonstrates a consensus has formed. There's also a bar upstairs which is quite nice.

I was talking to the bartender and he mentioned they had the original elevator winch up in the attic. Sure enough, looks what's hiding up there. He's planning on rebuilding each of the floors (2 more on top of the bar, plus the attic). It's going to be quite the place when he's done.

Chelsea Market continues to change recently. A new Deli.

And a favorite florist has closed down

The Courbet show at the Met was quite striking and wonderful. Well worth seeing before it disappears. This image was my favorite, though there were several risque ones which had a much bigger crowd around them.

The Dance studio which used to look down on Broadway has been in the city far longer than I have. I recently looked up, expecting to see the sight of dancers leaning against the windows. Alas, they have moved on.

I'm not quite sure what they were selling, but it was a bit disturbing to see him moving around in the window.

This used to be around the corner, but I think it stopped working at some point. I'm glad to see it's been refreshed.
I also like the irony of what it looks down upon.

They've been taking this train out of service every weekend for a while, finishing off the new South Ferry Station. I liked the comment though.

I never see this open, but it's an interesting little museum. When I visited long ago, they said the building over it had to pay for it as payment for hiding some historical items found during construction. Not sure if that's true, but it's an interesting story.

I loved the Wire, and while sad it finally finished, was pleased in the way they finished it. It's a masterpiece. Afterwards, they were selling t-shirts in the HBO store.

I've been impressed how far the work on the Seminary has come since October 2006. They're almost done.

I tried out my favorite trick from last year when I'd see a line like this. Walk up to the front of the line, look for a single student type of person. Ask if I can buy them a burger if I can skip the line.
Today, this nice person looked at me and replied, "what about a shake too"?
Sure, I replied. The fix was in.

Buried in one of the subway stations, I kept seeing this blinking light. I guess it makes sense to put the Signal Track School in an actual working subway station.

The Gordon Novelty company on Broadway and um 12th, was such a photographic treat. It's been closed for years, but someone finally cleaned it up. A layer of paint and all the signs are gone.

There's a "normal" Subway across the street, but this place packs them in. It makes sense, but it's first time I've seen a national chain make a Kosher specific version.

They've been refurbishing the path from the Boathouse to the Winged Angel in Central Park. As part of it, I believe they removed a step here. Seems like a small detail, but you'd always see people tripping over it.

This park was built to commemorate Isidor and Ida Straus who perished on the Titanic. She famously refused to leave her husband. This New York Times Streetscape article goes into a lot of fascinating detail.
