Galloping Horses on Broadway

Not something you see every day. Two police horses and their riders galloping down Broadway in the middle of traffic. Pretty Cool to see.

Ok, it might not be official, but it does look like it

In plywood since February, Hallo Berlin finally opened it's "Express" location. I'll give them a try next time I'm hungry for some spaetzle.

These galleries dont make it easy to get into, even if they are open.

I liked the atmosphere of Hill Country BBQ, but the brisket almost made me want to leave mid meal. The chicken was much much better as was the flank steak special. You also have to be careful not to order too much food. It's remarkably easy to have two or three meals on your plate without thinking about it.
I'm not sure I'll rush back, but it was fun to go at least once.

A small liquor and wine shop in Red Hook called LeNells is apparently the holy grail of bitters in NYC.

This is from the end of April, a view from a slightly different angle.

Dedicated to yesterday's charm and tomorrows convenience. 1931

Only a few weeks after I first noticed the Kosher Subway downtown, we see these letters removing their Kosher certification. Not surprisingly, it's closed now.
Update: it appears open again, though the letters are still there. I cant tell if it is Kosher or was Kosher, or may be Kosher again.

This is from May 3rd when Pietrasanta was closed by the Department of Health. l always love the signs the restaurants leave trying to explain the yellow sticker.

We had a really enjoyable dinner at the Modern. Enjoyable until a group of about 50 fans of an obscure filmmaker flooded into the restaurant and spread out all around our table. Apparently they had a retrospective at the Moma for him. The waiters tried to herd them back to their assigned area, but werent too successful.
The cheesecake was delicious even with having to ignore them.

This striking building, 2 Columbus Circle, is what remains after a major cleanup of a building which the owners let run way way down. There were complains about the new design altering the original, but I dont know how anyone could see it, since the building had been covered over in scaffolds for years.
When built in 1964, it was meant to house the art collection of Huntington Hartford, although he gave the building away a few years later. It sat empty for a number of years before being given to the city. It will now be the home of the Museum of Arts and Design.

The outlasted the New Cafe, so it's no surprise that Blockheads gets a big crowd on a nice spring afternoon.

From the website and descriptions in the press, it sounded like Picnic was a miniature shake shack. Well, it's not. It is a better than usual choice for the tourists queuing for the Statue of Liberty ferry. Of course it's overpriced for premade and refrigerated sandwiches, but it does have an excellent view. Plus the sandwiches are kind of tasty.

Hand truck instead of bike

Apparently a new chain in the city is coming to Hells Kitchen where the former Xing was shuttered in January.

I'm not sure I got this photo last time I was there.

The 5 boro bike tour is huge. Large enough the MTA needs to disburse riders before they try to get on the subway.

Getting ready for the horde

The horde itself

I kept seeing the "safety first rescue device" and wondered what was inside it.

Turns out it's the winch on the right side, in case someone passed out, they can winch them out of the manhole.

The club wouldnt let us into the dining room until we cleaned our shoes off with this high pressure air hose.

This was the best art gallery ever, I did not get the artists name though. Be careful though, it's easy to put an ankle in between a few mattresses while jumping around

Quite a change since last time I stood here (second photo)

The insurance is more than the sale price perhaps?

We caught the Olafur Elliason show at PS1 which was a lot of fun. This mirror slowly rotates around which sounds simple, but when you're lying on your back on the floor, it really changes your perception. Especially since you can see everyone around you and they're looking around and it's this giant moving "scene". We spent 15 minutes just lying there

This one was really fun too, it's called Beauty. Make sure you check it out from both sides and blow into it.

The meter kept running though, so it wasn't a fatal error.

This place is still not open, which since it's Memorial Day, you'd think would be important.
