I was about to give up on Photo Friday's challenge of Discovery this week, but this image from Central Park's Boat Pond two weeks ago is close enough. The boy learning to sail a boat with the father looking over. You can imagine the adventure the boy must be having.
I'm probably breaking the rules, but I also thought of this photo for a different reason. I'm wondering if people can figure out what it is for. If they can discover it's purpose. This is also located in Central Park, near the Western edge of the Resevoir.

Do you actually know what the step is for? I'd guess its to climb onto/off a carriage -- or horse.

It is indeed meant for getting back onto a horse. The horse path goes right by there.

I think the cement block is actually part of a water fountain... If my memory serves me correctly there are lots of these near the water fountains -- but this one seems to be missing the fountain. They use these to keep the pipes from getting damaged and also for small people to drink? Almost all carriages have steps built-in to the carriage. :)
