King Arthur

28m.jpg

I've always been a fan of the Arthurian legends. I read Tennyson, Mallory and White, stayed up late as a teenager watching Excaliber on HBO when my parents were asleep and have been trying to forget First Knight for the past 10 years.

Unfortunately, while having a great cast, great location and wide shots and more skill than usual in shooting the war scenes (though not in their tactics), this isn't a great movie.

There's a number of continuity errors, and several plot holes which caused several people to murmur during the showing. At least they avoided the whole love triangle part of the story which really really wouldn't have made any sense in context.

On the positive side, Clive Owens (where's the BMW), Ioan Gruffudd (where's the Hotspur), Keira Knightley (umm, the soccer ball?) all do good jobs within their roles. I noticed that Sean Gilder, Ioan's shipmate from Horatio Hornblower shows up in this as well. Finally, I enjoyed Mads Mikkelsen as Tristan.

Is it worth watching? Sure, if you're looking for a popcorn film.

PS: Here's a funny anachronistic photo for you.
