This really caught my eye the other day as something unusual. Google shows there's a Guide Horse Foundation. Of course, it's also been blogged before.
While I didn't recognize the pony from anything, I do recognize the trainer from the photos. Long way from North Carolina. Nice sneakers on the pony.

To whom it may concern,
I was wondering how i could become a seeing eye ponie trainer? I have been around horses all my life and i am now 13 and currently have 6 horses one wich is pregnant. I first thought of this when my cousins started to train a seeing eye puppy. I always thought it would be the coolest thing to train a pony to do such an intelligant job. Everyone always says horses arent very intelengent animals but this proves they can be just as smart as me and you. If you have any ideas or sujestions pleas contact me

As a horse lover, trainer and riding isntructor, I've been touched by the stories of guide horses. God bless Janet and Don Burleson for caring and dedicating themselves to helping others. I have taught blind and mentally challenged children on horseback, free of charge.
Today I saw Dan and Cuddles on Miracle Animals and was very happy to see the information being given to the public.
I've written an adventure book for teens and young adults. In the book I have the twins boys training a half wolf dog and finally volunteering at a training school for service dogs. During the last two chapters I'm including their introduction to guide horses. I hope the book will be entertaining and informational.
The book probably won't be out before spring of 2007.
I'm also a retired public school teacher. I truly, dearly love people of all ages and love working with humans and animals.
I hope THE ADVENTUROUS TWINS will be a successful book because I'm showing how the boys grew up and matured and helped others.
Thank you more than words can express for your caring of humans and animals.

My husband and I are just in the final stages of adopting our 2 year old grand daughter who has Peter's Anomaly. She has all ready had one eye removed and can see contrasting colors and light from her other. She has had 2 corneal transplants and is all most due for the 3rd. Her prognosis is poor. The doctor believes she'll be totally blind by 15. We are interested in the seeing eye ponies. After doing some research (my 14 year old's term paper) we think they would be best for her. How do we find out more and get on a waiting list? She is not ready for one yet, but is learning how to use a long cane (2 feet, ha, ha) right now.
