Open House NY: Mechanic Library

mechanichall-1.JPG

As part of Open House NY, we stopped by the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesman library. It's the third oldest library and as far as they know, the last to still use a paper card catalog.

Update: NewYorkOlogy was there as well.

Update 2: In a bizarre coincidence, Rion visited and took many of the same photos. I think hers are prettier than mine though.

On the balcony, they have an impressive collection of different locks, coins, typewriters and books.

The cornerstone was laid in 1802, making this building 202 years old. When I went to London, I was amazed how old some of the buildings were. This building is older than most in the US
