After braving the Jefferson Market Library line for Open House NY, we wandered over to the Grand Lodge of the Masons which predictably had a huge line. Right before we boarded the elevator, the guide mentioned they give the tour every weekday and you'd get a lot more info than they could give today with all those people crowding into the place.
They make heavy use of symbology. Note the right angle square and the protractor like instrument on the corners of the Bible.
The rooms quickly filled up with visitors. I think I heard there are 12 of these rooms in the building. Each one is structurally laid out the same, but is decorated differently and is used by a particular lodge. Two columns by one of the doors. Seats for the three leaders. Benches for everyone else. A kneeling thingie in the middle of the floor and a big lit "G" sign over the head chair. The "G" stands for Geometry by the way. People do not wander from lodge to lodge very often and each lodge focuses on it's members.
