Robert Smithson is known for somewhat esoteric location art, most notably, Spiral Jetty.
The Whitney is co-sponsoring the weeklong exhibition of a work that Smithson designed, but did not live to see. They built a miniature park on top of a barge and are having it towed around the island of Manhattan. According to their schedule, it was supposed to be up at 57th at 5pm. No one knew where it would be so I started skating down to find it.

It was making circles near the piers off of Christopher st. I don't think it ever headed up to 57th st. Most people didn't know what to make of it, though a few had seen it in the papers and knew it was "art".
Personally, I think it's like the Gates. Interesting to see, but I'm not so sure that it should be considered great art. It was a great excuse to get outside on a beautiful day though.

Especially since it was a really nice sunset.

It's Jersey City! So, it's not part of the Manhattan skyline. The large building is the Goldman Sachs Tower finished in 2004.
