i also happened to wander into this store the other day, although i felt like i walked in on the middle of a RL campaign shoot rather than a store: the beautifully manicured models/sales staff walked around mindlessly all perfectly dressed to match the room they were working in. i didn't want to ask for help as i thought i would step in the way of their camera shot.

Being an old school Polo head I was pretty excited when I first saw this store- but something about the combination of the perfectly groomed sales people and the skull and crossbone logo made me a little nervous! Especially when I did try and inquire something of one exceptionally pretty sales guy who seemed to have the intelligence of an exceptionally pretty snail!I try and convince myself that I probably shouldn't shop there, but my love of consumtion may yet win.

so far i havent been able to find a place to buy rugby apparel online. i live in boston and finally went down to newbury st. last week to check it out... i ended up buying a rugby shirt and wanted to buy more, but i was limited on cash that day... im going back this week with more money!!...
what i think: i think the store is great and the clothing is edgy and stylish yet sofisticated. never trashy... but thats what i expected from ralph! the employees were nice and perfectly clothed in rugby items... they were helpful too...
so check out a store if you see one or live by one. you may like it or not depending on your style...

Boston, MA
New York, NY
Charlottesvile, VA
Chapel Hill, NC
New Canaan, CT (opening Dec. 8)

I LOVED the store but as an actual rugby player, it saddened me to see pictures of Football and Soccer players in the store...isn't it supposed to be RUGBY? I did really enjoy the signed shirts and the sales people were really helpfull (one of them faked a british accent though... I caught him chatting with a co-worker with an american accent later on hahaha)
It was kind of funny though, when I first saw the outside of the store I thought it sold actuall rugby uniforms, balls, scrumcaps and the like...boy was I suprised

As soon as you walk in Rugby, you feel as though you are the only one in on this well kept secret. The seamless blending of Ivy League sensibilities and skateboard edge makes Rubgy exceptional and subsequently my new obsession. The prices are great especially when there's a sale. Cant wait to work there, I heard they pick out your outfitts for you.

However when I walked in and noticed they sold clothes I wasn't disappointed. Thank god I live in Jersey and can take the train to the NYC store. I smell a shopping spree coming on...

My husband and I happened across the Chapel Hill store in August 2005 on a trip to the area. We had never even heard of it, and it was the skull and crossbone motifs that drew us in, as we are far from preppy. We loved it. The staff were very, very young, but nice. Probably thought we were a little odd being so ga-ga over the skull and crossbone stuff. Am I correct to assume the skull and crossbone motifs are still being used? Sure wish you could buy Rugby online, as we are in California...

I was told by a store rep in CT that people are buying clothes there, then selling for 5 times as much in Japan. Receipt actually has a statement they may limit purchases to 5 of a given item or a total of 10 items - Ralph wants to crack down on this reselling market. Prices here at Rugby are very reasonable compared to Ralph Lauren store as Rugby targets a different demographic - teens and twenties. Suggest calling New Canaan store at (203)966-2035 w/ sizes and color likes, Satoru, and let them pick a wardrobe for you to ship. Prices range from USD $20 (tanks) to $68 (buttondowns with a twist, jeans, khakis) to higher for some jackets and sweaters but all low for quality. Good luck.

The Rugby store is amazing. It reminded me of ambercrombie like 5 years ago (not trashy) mixed with ralph lauren. it's a very urban prep style. everything in the store is gorgeous! the staff was so helpful and gracious. the only problem is that it is so small and it was hard to enjoy the collection/shopping.

Great news for the west coast! The new Rugby store at Stanford Shopping Center (Palo Alto, CA) opened yesterday!!! And there is apparently one opening at University Village (Seattle, WA) in August. I took an early lunch break to get to the mall right at 10 because I could not wait to finally see what all of you have seen ;) It's everything you said it was - edgy, preppy, stylish, fun, the materials, colors, and patches are so cool and such good quality, and it definitely reminds me of the old preppy Abercrombie! I'm ready to go back today to pretty much blow my entire paycheck :D For all you west coasters, this is your chance to get your hands on some Rugby apparel - see you there! :P

i was in georgetown last week and went into the rugby store to kill time. i loved it but didnt have any time to buy anything because of a prior appointment. I wanted to find it online, but was disappointed to find this site and read that you can only purchase it in stores that are extremely far away from my hometown of Miami. If there is anyone who knows of one closer to Miami please let me know.

I saw the new fall line at the Palo Alto Rugby store on Friday. It's truly incredible! Lots of interesting sweaters and jackets for sale along with the usual Rugby shirts. The new denim line is quite nice as well, with darker washes and not quite as thrashed as the previous line. The manager also mentioned that a new footwear collection will be introduced soon! By the way, a Chicago store will be opening later this year.

I loved Ralph Lauren Rugby since I heard about it in Teen Vogue. I've never actually been but when my Dad and sister went to visit UVA(in Charlottesville) last year they got me a rugby polo and a rugby bag. I love both but the rugby polo is just a normal short sleeved polo with a rugby symbol on it. I would have rather had an actually Rugby shirt.
But my sister decided to go to UVA so when I go to visit her this fall, I'm definately buying out the whole store. I'd be super siked if they opened one here but Clearwater, Florida isn't exactly known as a college town(I've noticed that's the trend where they're opening these stores).

I went to the Georgetown Rugby Store today with my brother and purchased a long sleeved rugby polo. It was incredibly expensive. The long sleeved shirt alone costed $70, but tack on a patch and a number and it quickly got above $110. I'm REALLY excited for my new rugby though, they are going to sow on the patches and have the shirt ready for me on Thursday (its the least they could do with all of that money shelled out!). I will be a college student in the fall, and so having another nice long-sleeved polo will suit me well. Though I don't think I will be able to afford another Rugby for a while..........

Visited the Stanford store a few weeks ago. Great looking store but much smaller than what I'd imagined. Salespeople didn't really acknowledge my existence. The clothes looked terrific though. At the time it was mainly end of summer stuff and I'd bet that the fall collection is where a store like that would really thrive. I like the fact that it's traditional but with an edge--it takes preppy one step further. One thing they could do to make it a bit more consumer-friendly would be to make their men's neckties slightly wider. I don't know any guys who actually wear ties that skinny and if they did it would look like they're wearing a boy's tie.

As a rugby player, I think our sports shirts are pretty ugly. I can't understand why all you non-ruggers like wearing them. And I want to know, is the appeal in these clothes Ralph Lauren or the sport? Because actual rugby shirts might be cheaper and won't make you look like such a poser. Get some balls and play.

Me and a buddy went in to the Chapel Hill store and blew it up. We both spent about 300.00 apiece and were very happy with our items. The blend of Ivy league and Southern Fraternity Prep is a perfect combo for a look that is as cool now as it was in the 50's on campuses across the country. I also like the fact that the stores are in great locations so not to flood the market with this great look. Keep up the good work.

I just read the comments from "emily" dated August 29 above. Perhaps, emily, you aren't aware that sport and leisure have influenced fashion for centuries. Have you ever worn a pair of running shoes? If you have and you don't regularly run marathons, under your definition, you'd be a "poser." Have you ever worn a polo-style shirt? If you have and you don't regularly play polo, I guess that also makes you a "poser." If people like rugby shirts and don't play rugby, so what??? Some would be flattered that the clothing in what you claim as YOUR sport is also fashionable. Lighten up.

To everyone considering buying from Ralph Lauren Rugby... DON'T, I repeat do NOT!!! Ralph Lauren is using the name rugby without compensating USA Rugby, the legitimate not-for-profit governing body of the sport of rugby in the USA. As a rugby player (remember rugby is a sport first and a brand last), I am offended that not only is Ralph Lauren trying to exploit the brand/sport of rugby, he is actually going to court against USA Rugby for full rights to the name of rugby.
This is an abomination and the tens of thousands of rugby players in the USA have taken note. Drop the charges Ralph Lauren, compensate USA Rugby for using the name, and apologize to the American rugby community. Until this happens, forget about us ever purchasing any products from you ever again!!!

Dear Sir,
We are a garment company in China. One of our production department is specialized in producing dye sublimation textile and promotional products. The sublimation textile includes (ice)hockey, cycle, soccer, paintball, basketball, baseball, rugby jerseys, casual wear. The promotional products include sublimation bags and cups. We use two processes to make sublimation textile. One is screen printing (the order is large, above 500pcs), the other is digital printing (the order is small, above 15pcs).
I just get your information about your company from web site.
I wonder if you have got some new projects about sports jerseys at present, which we can provide some services.
The attached is our sublimated productions we ever made for our overseas customers.
Please browse them. Thanks.
If you have the possibility to order above 500pcs for each design, the price will be about $8-16/pc.
If between 300pcs and 500pcs, the price will be about $18-$20/pc.
If less than 100pcs, the price will be about $24-$26/pc.
If you are interested in them, would you like to play an order with us?
Hope to hear from you.

I personally thought that the Rugby Store in Greenwich, CT was great. I liked the whole atmosphere of the store. It almost seemed like I was in a Harry Potter wardrobe room. Aside from the whole 'rugby polos' they also have sweaters and jeans. I thought that it would be a store that only sold polos. I was very wrong. There is actually a whole collection of winter whites. I am very much in love with what the Rugby Store has to offer. I think it's a great asset to the infamous Greenwich Avenue.

I really loved the Ralph Lauren Rugby store, where I went yesterday. I agree, it did feel like it was right out of Harry Potter! The only thing I didn't like was the prices. $70 for a shirt? Even on sale, the polos were $48, which is quite a lot, almost 50 bucks for a shirt. Even though they are pretty, you're probably better off spending that 50 bucks elsewhere.

hahahahahaha what? compensating USA Rugby for using the name Rugby? I'm pretty sure Rugby didn't even originate in the United States. So if I open up a restaurant that only makes peanut butter sandwiches...does that mean i have to pay Jiffy?
damn it... ;-)
and for everyone complaining about the prices...for a custom long sleeved, lower level designer shirt, $70 is not a lot. Last time I checked you aren't forced to buy something you don't want to pay that much for.

There is a lot more to RLP's use of the word RUGBY than in the above posts. RLP customers need to be aware of their trademark practices. Not only for our sport of rugby but for what they put the American Polo Association through for many years.

I'm with London on this one. These people who are bent out of shape about RL using the Rugby name need to find a new cause. If anything, RL has helped heighten the profile and prestige of sports like polo and rugby and I'm sure has probably gotten more people interested in what those sports are all about.

I was visiting Stanford for a pre-orientation and in killing time I popped in to the Rugby store by accident. The staff was drop dead beautiful and the clothes were hot. Later I went to the Polo store but found it to be a real drag. I think Rugby is more Ralph Lauren looking than POLO for some reason. The standards were low in the Polo store for sure, the people were really ugly. But Rugby totally made up for it, it was a visual feast.
Bought lots of cute stuff.
I'll be back in the Fall.

Reading the above, American society never fails to surprise and amuse me. I am a recent retired professional rugby player and to me it seems that trying to buy into something like this is a little ridiculous. As for USA Rugby suing RL, that is just laughable, USA Rugby has no rights to the name nor does RL. Who these people think they are is simply beyond me and probably most of the actual rugby playing world.
For the ill informed above, rugby was first documented to have been played in 1823 at RUGBY boarding school in England!!! Do you think the school should sue RL and USA Rugby lol! That means that the game is only 50yrs younger then the independence of your country from the British Empire. However there are reports of it being played in 1602 (in a primitive form). For those of you above questing whether rugby came from the USA, WHERE DO YOU THINK AMERICAN FOOTBALL???!!!!??? Of coarse it is not an American sport, hence why we don’t wear ridiculous pads and have a rest and a stop every 15 seconds.
I have been to a rugby shop in NYC and have to say it made me laugh. Most of the badges on the shirts for different teams are infact British Boarding school badges and in some cases the badges of different houses in the schools. However I guess the American way, ie if you have the dollars you can buy into anything you like, irrespective of the history and culture behind it being older then your own country.
Just to let you know Rugby USA has never beaten another team from a major rugby nation, infact Canada regularly feeds your asses to you on a plate! Also we have the Rugby world cup this year (every 4yrs) in France, where the world champions will be crowned. How is it in American sport you call yourselves world champions in sports such as NFL and Baseball, when infact it is only American teams who play in the tournaments in only American sports??????

I love the store in Georgetown, but when I'm in New York I go to that store too. I love the brand. For all you complaining and thinking that USA Rugby should be compensated...SHUT UP. Rugby is a sport, it has never been trademarked, so there is no way Ralph Lauren could or should have to compensate them legaly. Im with the Brits on this one.

I found out about this store through one of my best friends. I think i shop their more than him now, lol. I heart Rugby. Its awesome, with its urban preppy gorgeous fit. I get way toooo many compliments with their gear on. I don't want to seem like a rugby stalker or wierdo, so i decided to cut down my visits to once a week. LMAO i definitely recommend this store to fashionista humans!!!!! I adore the hott guys that work there in NY and Rugby is tottaly wicke
